I sort of like the belfs because they're bastards. But for my money, troll and orc chicks are nicer to look at, not the anime-influenced cookie-cutter Alliance female models. (Except the dwarf. Dwarf chicks rule.)
I have a human mage who's currently at 61, because after getting two Hordies to 60, I wanted to see the other side of the fence. And really? I'm not that impressed. They get more content love from Blizzard, but I get bored with the Alliance setting because it's so...well, D&D Lite. Versatile&diplomatic humans, aloof&tragic elves, gruff dwarves and Cute Race of Hyper Little People. I much prefer the Horde. (Though I'm having a HELL of a lot of fun with my little Draenei huntard...I'm on an RP server and have been buttonholing mages to ask for Arcane Intellect for my pet. "Is good kitty, but doesn't pay attention!")
And with you on the elf-hate. Such an overdone race in general. Makes me want to go read Pratchett's "Lords and Ladies" again.
