She had potential to be a FUN character but they really dropped the ball when they over did it in trying to make her sound like a hardened soldier chick and just made her sound like a stupid poser.
Exactly. It's amazing how they botched it considering how well the fem!Shep comes across as a hardened soldier. Ashley in comparison to a fem!Shep just tries way too hard to be taken seriously. Which actually could have been cool if handled correctly and the writers were aware of how she comes across. Having a touchy, obnoxious, wannabe tough woman who ends up being all talk could be really interesting and entertaining in the right hands.
Let's not get started on Liara, shall we? (Or the asari in general. As soon as they introduced us to Liara's mom with a close-up of ONLY HER BOOBS, I knew we were in for a hilarious adventure.)
Oh man, Liara and the Asari. Talk about Bioware dipping into every sci-fi hot alien chick cliche possible with them. You'd think that if gender has no meaning to their species the way that Liara claims, the Asari would look more androgynous instead of like HOT BLUE CHICKS FROM SPACE!!111!! But then, that would probably interfere with all the fanboi's that eat that shit up.
Also I haven't tried it yet, but the whole idea of a romance with Liara kind of icks me out. I mean, I like her better than Ashley, but still, she's so far into the inexperienced virgin librarian stereotype that she ends up coming across as a teenage kid who is desperately trying to act adult. Considering how hard assed Shepard is - it doesn't seem sexy - more like robbing the cradle or doing the dirty with jail bait. When she started hitting on my fem!Shep, I felt the way I imagine high school teachers feel when their students have obvious crushes on them, which I doubt is what Bioware intended.
Bioware romances are starting to become parodies of themselves. They need to just focus on good, old-fashioned character development.
Agreed. I mean I liked the Kaiden romance but still, the romance angle is wearing thin, especially since they seem to toss all other character development out the window in favor of the romances. I'd love it if there weren't any romances at all in the next few Bioware games - ust some cool characters with interesting stories and interactions.
And wtf is the thing how simply having conversations is enough to "romance" someone. It should be a separate dialog tree or require some additional work other than just going, "Hi."
Hahahahahaha. The fem!Shep Kaiden romance can basically be boiled down to:
"Hey." "S'up." "I like you. You're cool." "Thanks. You too, but you're my CO." "Yeah. Later then."
*Later*
"Take your pants off now, bitch." "K."
I think if it had been anyone other than a hard assed fem!Shep, that wouldn't have worked lol. But I do agree, especially since they follow that pattern every game. I realize that they're constrained by time and game mechanics, but still, it would be nice to see something more realistic.
Were you on the Xbox? Combat and Mako driving is pretty simple on the PC.
I was on the PC, which tells you how much I suck at driving. Combat I got pretty good at. Driving in a straight line - not so much, and I have no excuse for it really.
Also, Lance Henriksen as Admiral Hackett will never stop being awesome for me. You know Hackett looks just like him too. I nearly pissed myself in glee every time I got another message from him.
OMG yes. You know, I think I was way more emotionally invested with what was happening with Admiral Hackett, than with any of my actual crew members. And the part where he goes and decks the Ambassador to get the Normandy released from the docks? One of the best moments of the game. So was installing him as the head of the new Council. He was far better developed than the entire Normandy crew. In the next game, they need to put the effort into the rest of the crew members that they did into him.
