I can't believe I missed this when you posted it, and if you don't mind a reply two years later, I totally agree.

I think at the very least the editor should have talked him out of cliffhangaring Brienne's and Cersei's fates... although I think Random House expected the next book to be out less than a year after the first, which of course didn't happen.
