A parenting conversation I never anticipated...

I just had to explain to my five year old son the difference between Americans and Decepticons.

Sometimes being a parent is both hilarious and awesome.

That is amazing. How'd it go?

I'm not sure. I think there might still be some confusion about where Transformers fit in the grand scheme of things. Where I think we left it at was:

1. President Obama is an American (he learned this from class).
2. Both he, his friends, and his family are all Americans too (he learned this from me when I discovered he thought that the only person on planet earth who was an American was President Obama).

Therefore:

3. Decepticons are awesome (like President Obama, himself, his friends and his family) and therefore should be Americans too.

Or something. I'm waiting for the next leap of awesome five year old logic...

That sounds weird...

I couldn't comment really on the differences since I am far from an expert on Transformers lore (by experiences with the franchise are essentially watching Beast Wars a little as a kid and seeing the remake movie).

I imagine it was, as you say, an amusing conversation though... particularly given the way that five year old logic tends to work in my experience (both as one and as the big brother of one years back).

Oh yes, five year old logic is pretty hilarious and garbled, especially since this time Americans, Decepticons and President Obama all somehow got mushed together into one giant classification, lol.

So where do the Junkions fit in?

Heh, I don't know. I'm kind of afraid to ask.

Wait until he starts cannibalizing your small appliances to try to make one.

I know. Right now he's satisfied with the Legos, but I figure that at some point, I'm going to find my toaster in pieces.

I... don't know what to say.

But perhaps he's onto something? Perhaps the difference is tinier than previously imagined???

Heh, I think he might be right. At least the world would definitely be far more entertaining that way.
