So I've been rather bitter about the latest round of nerfs to the Druid class. After two years of playing the red-headed stepchild class of WoW, we finally got some serious love with the expansion pack - and finally we weren't the suckiest class in the game.

As I figured, this was too good to last. And now, due to a bunch of whiners, we've been hit with the nerf bat after only a month and a half of being fixed. Some had legitimate gripes (warriors did need a buff - but I fail to see why a Druid needs a nerf), but most are a bunch of 14 year old rogue noobs who figure if they can't wtfpwn another class in under five seconds - you must be overpowered.

I realize that nerfs come and go. Classes get new powers and nerfed all the time - but this time it truly blows. We were broken for two freaking years until they finally got around to making us useful and only a month and a half later we're back to our pre expansion uselessness for feral druids. I suspect that the resto and balance trees are next. I guess if they do that, I'm goint to throw in the towel and just level up my lock to 70 because I'm getting really tired of playing the most disrespected, fucked up and misunderstood class in the game.

Honestly, I think this whole thing is driven more by market economics rather than any desire to balance the game. Druids are by far the least played class in the game. Warriors and rogues are two of the most played (warriors alone outnumber us at least four to one). And let's face it, Blizzard is a company and the thing they are most concerned with is their bottom line.

But this video made by the dudes that did the illegal danish stuff, almost makes the nerf worth it.

Jack of all trades classes can suck that way. I don't know if this is cheerier, but I'd think it's more likely a developer miscalculation than a nerf due to other classes whining. That's the way of MMoRPGs. And they'll prob fine tune and adjust. Keep reporting the bugs, but don't buy into the "omg warriors and rogues u suxors" mantra on the boards... (I checked the WoW forums because I haven't played in so long I didn't know you were nerfed and feel sort of caught up...so they nerfed your tanking and melee dps, right? But item-wise you guys have more than you need, which is actually probably sucky, because that makes it boring.)

My other rah rah cheer up mantra (and remember, I barely know what druids do, so you can feel free to disregard this), is that there's a power in being an underclass. Like... not being totally needed for raiding? Not always a bad thing!! Gear, schmear, your guild will love you anyways because you are you, and in the end, the underdog usually comes out okay. Your class being rare IS an asset, because when they do need you, there's your time in the sun. Ask Meg about EQ and and ranjo0rs... poor rangers.

And... moonkin is cool. Moonkin is pretty much the coolest thing I have ever seen. That alone should be a comfort.

One of the most annoying things about Mmorpgs are the people in them. Actually scratch that "one of." No, the people in them are definitely the most annoying thing. People gravitate to the least amount of work. They scream and whine when they don't get the sparkliest sword of zap handed to them on a silver platter. They think they're entitled to be gods because they pay $15/month. Have you heard about the whole, "I should be able to run my botting program because I am a paying subscriber" argument? Headdesk, headdesk, headdesk.

Okay, now I think I have talked myself out of logging into WoW this week. Or trying Vanguard. Hah! Thanks, pris!

Not really. Feral druid gear right now scales for shit-all, and as far as I've heard the higher tiers aren't that great in term of armor. There're people who are going to still use quest rewards in TBC endgames and pre-expansion blues.

I don't think belonging to a rare class is an asset. Remember when I bitched about the days where warlocks weren't that great and only one was brought along to crap out SS and HS? Yeah. Ask a warlock how much he enjoys that. Not that I think the situation'll be half so awful for a druids. If nothing else, go resto. I don't know what the situation's like with balance right now, but strangely I've not seen a single oomkin in high-level dungeons and raids.

Oh yeah, I hear ya. I think what they did to the affliction tree was total crap (and it sucked even more for me, because I love the affliction tree).

Right now I'm moonkin. I've told my guild that if we need healers that I'll volunteer to go back to resto, but actually they've told me to stick with my spec for now. They like having one moonkin around because 1) I can tank the shaman in gruul's lair (so much fun) and 2) they can put me in a group with warlocks and mages and everyone gets that 5% crit bonus. Plus, unlike a feral/resto build, with my balance/resto build I have now, I can actually swap gear and be a decently effective main healer (I was shocked to discover I could main heal 5 man's with minimal backup with this spec - something that was much, much harder with a feral/resto build). I've actually had the amazing experience of people bickering over who gets to be in the group with the moonkin because they love that bonus.

Like I told kos, the problem is that now all the feral druids are talking about going moonkin, and while I can see them taking one of us on a raid, they're not going to take three or four of us. Which mean that the feral druids have to become healers again, which is not really what they want to do.

So I don't really think we'll lose raid spots, rather, I'm more annoyed that once again we're told that we're healing bitches or nothing. And Christ, I kind of wish Blizzard would just give up trying, delete the druid class and say okay if you had a druid we'll replace it with one of the parent classes.

Roflmao. Yeah, the people... that's the rub isn't it? It's a double edged sword. I really like most of my guild (they’re pretty fantastic), but man, take a trip to the forums and you realize how many retards there are playing this game. Between them, and the tools that beg for gold, items, summons and instance run throughs, and that makes for a lot of asshats you have to deal with.

Which is why I rarely do anything outside the guild anymore. I can't even remember the last time I pugged something.

Moonkin is very fun. That's how I'm specced atm and I love it. The problem is that every single feral druid in my guild is now talking about speccing moonkin. We already have a serious shortage of tanks (warrior and druid), and we really don't need five more giant chickens in the guild, especially in raids. I honestly can't see them taking more than one or maybe two giant chickens to a 25 man group. It's going to be 1 moonkin, and everyone else gets to go back to healing. Plus, unlike me (I hate tanking with a burning passion) my druid buddies love it. It really sucks not that they aren't going to be viable in tanking raids anymore.

It's kinda like I feel we just got told: "Get back to the kitchen bitches and get to healing - cause that's what you should be doing." And given the way the priests whine about us on their forums, that's probably going to get nerfed too.

I almost wish that they hadn't fixed us and let us get a taste of being a non gimped class, because otherwise I would have just said fuck it when the xp came out and leveled up my warlock instead. But now doing it almost two months in, after everyone has leveled to 70, built their gear up and gotten a taste of being wanted and useful just seems really rather cruel.

One thing is for damn sure: I'm never rolling another hybrid class in a game again.

Now you know how I felt when they nerfed lock dots. :P I bitched about it a lot then, but fast forward to now: I'm outcritting and outnuking mages and pretty much out-damaging everybody except for the occasional rogue. I synergize so well with a shadow priest it's not even funny. My solo efficiency is still fine. I don't know about the PvP situation for my class, but what the hell, I don't PvP. In Karazhan, it's practically required to bring along a lock for the Shade of Aran encounter (preferably two), Wizard of Oz, and the Curator. I'm not worried about not being wanted in raids anymore.

So while the nerfs seem pretty severe, I doubt in practice it'll be that bad in the long run. There'll probably be adjustments before it goes live, even.

From: [identity profile] prisoner--24601.livejournal.com

I think the reason I find this so aggravating is that we sucked for so freaking long. I mean, we've been broken for years - and we finally got buffed to all three trees.

Druids cry for two years and finally get a fix. Warriors cry for a month and a half and druids get a nerf while they get their fix.

Hopefully, it won't be that bad in practice (I know that people tend to think the sky is falling when these changes happen), but man, from what the players are saying about the stuff on the test realms... it's pretty damn bad. And if they do go through with this nerf, I have to wonder if we're going to have to wait another two years before we get fixed again.

I feel sad that I have no idea what you guys are talking about. XP

I have considered getting into WoW, but I tend to lose interest real fast in MMORPGs.

From: [identity profile] prisoner--24601.livejournal.com

Heh, don't feel sad. Be happy that you never got addicted to the WoW crack.

Honestly, if it weren't for the awesome people that I play with, WoW probably wouldn't have kept my interest for this long. It's really the cool people I ended up meeting and playing with that keeps me playing.

MMORPGs tend to hold my attention span for about two weeks. And that's not even a single pay period for WoW.

You could download the client and give the ten-days trial a try.

I don't know what you're talking about, but is it dirty if I had a nerdgasm over it?

You will always pwn teh_1nt3rn3tz - especially if you're a giant chicken.

From: [identity profile] prisoner--24601.livejournal.com

It's dirty... but I love it. It's a perfect complement to my nerd!rage over a stupid ass videogame, rofl.

From: [identity profile] winterfox.livejournal.com

There's a giant chicken in WoW. It's summoned by an NPC as a result of a warlock quest.

:P

From: [identity profile] prisoner--24601.livejournal.com

Oh yeah. I had to do that quest on my warlock. I laughed so freaking hard that myself and my husband who was helping almost died.

Eh...not to diminish your grief, but this is exactly how I felt when they "revised" the Shaman. Class got reduced to a healbot, so I do share your nerf pain. I even heard that a few days ago the priests and druids of WoW were on strike because of this.(no, seriously).

On the other hand; mages are getting teh lurve right now, seems Blizz decided it was time for us to be top-DPSers again.
