So I just realized that the Dragon Age expansion pack comes out on Tuesday. Forty bucks seems really expensive considering that the base game was fifty dollars. Especially since it's supposed to have what - like 15 hours of new content? Is anyone planning on getting it?

I think I'm going to wait and keep playing Mass Effect 2 for awhile. For that price, Dragon Age: Awakenings had better the most awesome expansion of all freaking time.

So I think it's probably time for a computer upgrade. Right now, I can't run Mass Effect 2 - although it's debatable whether it's on account of my processor not meeting the system requirements or it's some crazy game bug (there's an epic thread over on the bioboards where people are trying to sort that shit out). Still, if it were problems with just one game, I'd say to hell with it, but I've been noticing recently that my computer really does need some upgrades anyway, at least some more memory as well as a faster processor and motherboard.

But I'm wondering if it's time to just give up on PC gaming and buy an xbox.

On one hand, I've always played games on the computer. I like playing games on the computer. The one console I did buy (which admittedly was a long time ago), sat around gathering dust and I think I played like four games on it. I don't know that we'd actually play enough games to justify buying an xbox. On top of that, our television is a piece of crap, which is actually fine by me because I canceled cable on account that I really don't watch TV. The very few shows I do actually watch, I just torrent for free or are offered for free on the internet.

On the other hand, if I did buy a new TV and xbox, we could all play together and we'd have something better to watch DVDs on (although we don't do that much either). There's also the greater variety of games that would be available.

So tell me my nerdy gaming friends, should I just suck it up and pony up the extra cash to buy a TV and xbox?
I kind of feel like I just ran a marathon or something. I have no idea how you all ended up beating the game so damn quickly, because it took me like 90+ hours to finish it (and I didn't even do everything). True, probably 20 of those hours were spent with the game idle and me afk chasing after the anklebiters or making dinner or whatever, but still, that was a damn long game.

Overall, I thought it was pretty fun. Not the greatest or most original game ever, but pretty consistently entertaining. If I were going to grade it against other Bioware titles, I'd have to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as Knights of the Old Republic or Balder's Gate 2, but thought it was light years better than Jade Empire. I'd put it on the same enjoyment level as Mass Effect, although the strengths of those two games seem to be the opposite from each other. Mass Effect had a more interesting plot line that was much tighter and very well thought out, but the NPC's fell kind of flat. Dragon Age had this sprawley behemoth of a plot that many times was too big and too disorganized and was often really, really contrived, but I liked the NPC interaction much better.

Cut for game spoilers, bitches, gripes and the stuff that I actually liked. )

So I finished Fallout 3 today, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.

A spoiler free review inside. )

It took me awhile because I had to play in smallish chunks of time, but I finally managed to finish Mass Effect.

Meet Ava Shepard. She's kind of a bitch... )

You all may have seen this already, but I couldn't resist putting it up:

Minesweeper: The Movie

I'd actually go pay to see that unlike 95% of movies out there.

Because I'm years behind everyone else on the gaming curve (partially because of being broke for awhile and partially because of World of Warcraft eating up all my gaming time) I've finally gotten around to playing both Fable and Jade Empire.

Cut for minor spoilers that are probably not spoilers for most of you guys anymore... )

So someone asked over on the WoW general forums what the worst thing people had ever done in the game was, and while some people missed the point by posting stories about deserved retribution or pvp ganking, some of them were rather funny. Some were just... amazingly shitty. Cut for non WoW nerds. )

So Bethesda bought the rights to the best computer rpg of all time, Fallout, and finally after years and years Fallout 3 is in development and slated for a fall 2008 release.

They even have a trailer! There's actually a FAQ about the game here. Apparently unlike the first two games, this one is supposed to take place on the eastern cost of the United States.

I'm so freaking geeked. If there was one game that I could have picked to have a sequel for, it's Fallout (yes, even over Knights of the Old Republic). This is probably my all time favorite computer game although it might tie with Day of the Tentacle.

It had probably the best and most original character creation system that I've ever seen in an rpg, an amazingly original plot (I'm a sucker for post apocalyptic stories) and some completely kick ass visuals (I can still see the opening sequence for Fallout 1 in my head). Fallout 1 also had the most entertaining instruction manual ever with the hilarious Pip Boy cartoons.

I just hope that 1) this actually does get released and 2) it lives up to the first two games.

I think I'm going to have to go dig up my copies of the old games and play them again.
So I've been rather bitter about the latest round of nerfs to the Druid class. After two years of playing the red-headed stepchild class of WoW, we finally got some serious love with the expansion pack - and finally we weren't the suckiest class in the game.

As I figured, this was too good to last. And now, due to a bunch of whiners, we've been hit with the nerf bat after only a month and a half of being fixed. Some had legitimate gripes (warriors did need a buff - but I fail to see why a Druid needs a nerf), but most are a bunch of 14 year old rogue noobs who figure if they can't wtfpwn another class in under five seconds - you must be overpowered.

I realize that nerfs come and go. Classes get new powers and nerfed all the time - but this time it truly blows. We were broken for two freaking years until they finally got around to making us useful and only a month and a half later we're back to our pre expansion uselessness for feral druids. I suspect that the resto and balance trees are next. I guess if they do that, I'm goint to throw in the towel and just level up my lock to 70 because I'm getting really tired of playing the most disrespected, fucked up and misunderstood class in the game.

Honestly, I think this whole thing is driven more by market economics rather than any desire to balance the game. Druids are by far the least played class in the game. Warriors and rogues are two of the most played (warriors alone outnumber us at least four to one). And let's face it, Blizzard is a company and the thing they are most concerned with is their bottom line.

But this video made by the dudes that did the illegal danish stuff, almost makes the nerf worth it.

The day I've been waiting for ever since the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade hit the shelves has finally arrived.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA )
On Wednesday, two of the most awesome things in the world collided, World of Warcraft and South Park, and it was freaking hilarious.

For those of you who missed the awesome, follow the links below.

Part One, Part Two, and Part Three.

What totally kills me is how accurate this is (really, it's almost scary rofl). I think it's pretty clear that they play WoW. The only thing that sucks is that Horde side is nowhere in sight, but as someone pointed out on the message boards, there's going to be a whole new wave of n00bs and they're all going to roll Alliance because of this.

I'm such a freaking nerd that I was watching this and playing in a 40 man raid at the same time. I was laughing so hard that I ended up letting my tank die.

Best part? The dude that was idle and reading a playboy magazine. Freaking priceless.
