300

( Apr. 11th, 2007 06:23 am)
So I finally went and saw 300 the other day - and boy was it awful... awesomely awful. Cut for very minor spoilers, and a lecture about ancient history you probably didn't want to hear anyway. )

I should be working on chapter five of Chasing Redemption, but I've decided to screw off and procrastinate by writing a short rant inspired by the Batman Begins (which I thought was absolutely fantastic, btw).

A short and mostly spoiler free rant about movie love interests... )

After breaking down and watching Revenge of the Sith this weekend, I've decided that I detest her character.

Joss Wheadon is writing and directing a Wonder Woman movie.

*insert squeals of delight here*

I had pretty much given up on this film project a while back when I read that Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lopez were up for the Wonder Woman part (which is so wrong, for so many reasons).

I have been a Wonder Woman fan ever since I was a little kid. I loved the TV show and I also loved the comic books, and yes, I had the Wonder Woman underoos. While both the TV show and the comic books were amazingly campy, and probably wouldn't hold up so well now that I'm an adult, they were a wonderful influence on a six-year old-kid. The lessons of the comic book were especially excellent, mainly that you don't need a man to do things for you and you shouldn't wait for around for a man to come and save you. Sure the feminist bits were ham handed, and when you look back there is a strange sexual subtext (Wonder Woman is always getting chained up), but hey, it was perfect for little kids, especialy little girls.

It just seems like a lot of writers don't understand what makes Princess Diana cool...but I have to believe that if anyone can make Wonder Woman into an interesting, ass kicking heroine, it's Joss Wheadon. If he makes this movie good, then maybe I can forgive him for the last three seasons of Buffy and the last season of Angel...
